History
Founded in 1895, Tjaden was established as a construction company in Haarlem. Before long, the dewatering of its own construction projects became an important part of its operations and Tjaden was also contracted by other companies to dewater construction pits. Gradually the company grew into a well drilling company of stature, construction activities were discontinued, drilling and dewatering proved to have a long future ahead.
The company moved to a spacious location in 1941 and moved to Rotterdam 65 years later in 2006. At the time, the company was also located in Haaren (NB).
The development of Tjaden
Back in the 1970s, Tjaden developed the so-called return re-injection technique, whereby groundwater was infiltrated back into the ground. Numerous re-injection fields were constructed at Schiphol Airport with which the best techniques were experimentally developed. This consultancy established by Tjaden in 1976 proved to be a valuable addition to the existing well drilling company. Large projects could be carried out from start to finish, including several major projects of the Delta Works in Zeeland.
During the early 1990s, Tjaden was one of the first drilling companies to start realizing ground source energy systems, the Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage Systems (ATES) . Today, over 30 years later, Tjaden is still an important and major player in the market, delivering quality is the strength of this long-term market position.
Over the years, Tjaden has grown into an internationally operating contractor with the Netherlands, Belgium and France as its home markets.
